Private session aftercare: After Your 60-Minute Private Session (24-Hour Do's and Don'ts)

Long Beach, NY (Downtown Long Beach / Park Avenue district) | In-studio or Virtual (Zoom)
Right after your 60-Minute Private Session, the single most important rule is this: give your body a true downshift. I want 5 to 10 minutes of gentle breathing and easy movement, then water (or an electrolyte drink), and no intense workouts or deep passive stretching for the next 24 to 48 hours. In Long Beach, NY, that coastal sun and humid summer air can sneak up on you fast, so hydration and cooling matter more than you think, even if you feel “fine” walking out the door.
The first 24 to 48 hours: do this to keep your body happy
A 60-minute private movement session is focused and personal. That’s the whole point, we work precisely where you need it. The aftercare is how you lock in the benefit instead of turning it into unnecessary soreness.
My quick 24-hour checklist: 5 to 10 minutes of cool-down breathing + gentle stretches, water or electrolytes, a protein-balanced meal within 1 to 2 hours, and keep your movement light and easy.
Do: cool down before you jump back into life
If you’re heading out toward Park Avenue right after, take an extra few minutes in place or on a quiet Downtown Long Beach street for a short walk. Let your breath settle. I’m looking for calm, steady inhales and a slower pace so your nervous system gets the message that you’re safe and done working.
Do: hydrate like it’s part of the session
I generally recommend plain water right away, and electrolytes if you’ve been sweating, you’re outdoors, or you’re doing beach time. Long Beach humidity can leave you depleted without you noticing. If you’re grabbing something nearby, a smoothie or electrolyte drink from a Park Avenue cafe is a simple win.
Don’t: heavy cardio, hot tubs, or deep passive stretching (24 to 48 hours)
Skip the “burn” workouts for a day or two. Avoid hot baths, hot tubs, and saunas if you’re sore. And please don’t sink into long, deep, passive stretches trying to force flexibility. If something feels tight, I’d rather you do light mobility, easy range-of-motion work, or a short walk.
The first week: how to build momentum without flare-ups
Most people do best with a “steady and consistent” week after a private session. You don’t need to baby yourself, but you do want to avoid big spikes in intensity. This is especially true if we did focused work on hips, hamstrings, shoulders, or core, because those areas tend to complain when you suddenly go hard again.
Keep doing gentle movement
Think: easy walks, light mobility, short flows, and normal daily movement. If you feel “good sore, ” a little warm-up and light movement usually helps. If you feel sharp pain, pinching, swelling, or dizziness, pause. Let me know, and also reach out to a clinician if it’s intense or not improving.
Travel-home tips for Island Park, Lido Beach, Atlantic Beach, Oceanside, Baldwin, or Freeport
If you’re commuting home, keep your layers breathable so you don’t get chilled or overheated after you sweat. If you came straight from the beach, brush off sand and salt sooner rather than later. It sounds small, but it helps you avoid skin irritation and that sticky, overheated feeling that can make soreness feel worse.
Simple recovery tools that actually help after a private yoga class
This is the stuff I see work most often for post-yoga session care and post-pilates recovery, without overcomplicating your life.
Ice for focal, spicy soreness
If one spot feels acutely irritated, use a cold pack 10 to 15 minutes at a time, with a cloth barrier. Rest that area and keep movement gentle.
Light foam rolling or mobility, not aggressive digging
Keep it easy. I’d rather you do 2 to 4 minutes of gentle rolling than go hunting for pain. The goal is circulation and relief, not bruising.
Food and sleep that support your work
A protein-balanced meal within 1 to 2 hours helps recovery. Then aim for solid sleep. This is where your body does the “building” part.
And if spiritual and meditation support is part of why you book with me, keep it simple: 3 to 5 minutes of quiet breathing that evening. That’s mindfulness care you can actually stick to.
Beach days, showers, and sunscreen: the real-life Long Beach add-ons
A lot of people leave their session and go right into “summer mode.” You can, just do it smart.
- Beach or swim: It’s usually fine if you feel steady and not dizzy. Keep it gentle, skip intense ocean swims if you’re fatigued, and reapply sunscreen. Coastal sun is no joke.
- Shower timing: A normal shower is fine. If you’re sore, avoid very hot water right away. Warm is better than scorching.
- If you’re taking the LIRR or commuting: Pack a light layer, sip water, and give yourself a few extra minutes before you rush for the train. Your body settles when you don’t sprint and clamp everything down again.
When to reach out to me, and when to book your next 60-minute session
Mild soreness, a little fatigue, or feeling emotionally “open” after focused one-on-one work can be normal. What I don’t want you pushing through is sharp pain, swelling, dizziness, or anything that feels like it’s getting worse instead of better. Pause your activity and let me know what’s going on.
"I felt so supported along the way. ... Throughout the process, I was reminded that I was safe and it was so supportive for someone who has never done Reiki before."

That supported feeling is the standard I aim for, even after you walk out. If you chose an add-on like Reiki Integration, Sound Bath or Vibrational Rest, or a Tarot Pull with Reflective Insight, give yourself quiet time later that day. No stacking five more stressful things on top. Let the work land.
As for timing your next session, it depends on your goal and your schedule. If you’re building consistency or working through a stubborn pattern, booking your next 60-minute private session within a couple of weeks usually keeps progress moving. If you’re using sessions as maintenance, monthly can be a great rhythm. If you want more context before you rebook, I’d point you to what to expect from your first 60-minute private yoga session and why a 60-minute private yoga session works. Quick note if you found me searching “reiki healer near me” or “reiki practitioner near me”: I do offer Reiki Integration as an add-on to this private session. If you’re craving a calmer nervous system along with focused movement, tell me before we start so I can pace the session that way.
